This one day, in-house workshop, provides managers and their team members with an introduction to the Balanced Scorecard. As a system of management, the Balanced Scorecard is applicable to organizations of any size in the private, public and voluntary sectors. Just as an aircraft's pilot and crew - from jumbo jets to small aircraft - need tools and instruments to guide them to where they want to get to, so do management. The workshop will also benefit those with some prior knowledge of the Balanced Scorecard because of the focus on applying the approach.

While some organizations have implemented a Scorecard using spreadsheet and presentation software, we believe that they are missing a key benefit - enhanced communication on strategy as soon as performance data becomes available. Additionally, the cost of data collection and dissemination in terms of time and manpower generally exceeds the cost of appropriate software by a significant amount by the end of the first year. Organizations can overcome these obstacles through the use of the Microsoft software and tools. Microsoft's solution has been certified by the Balanced Scorecard Collaborative.

Workshop Overview - Typical Programme

Morning
The morning sessions will introduce the ideas behind the Balanced Scorecard, get participants applying them to their own organization and start the development of a performance management framework.

Afternoon
The afternoon is focussed on developing a computer based model; analysing this model; and defining an action plan to introduce the Balanced Scorecard into their organization.

Tony Gill who is a director of Phrontis. He has held a number of international marketing and management positions within Carrier Corporation and for the past fifteen years has specialised in helping organizations to improve both strategic and operational performance using systems thinking approaches. He is co-editor of the book, 'Multi-methodology: The Theory and Practice of Combining Management Science Methodologies' published by John Wiley. Tony has been a guest lecturer in strategy development at Warwick Business School on the MBA programmes.
